Purpose
The GCRP Leadership Award recognizes individuals, corporations, governments, civil society and academia that are demonstrating leadership in establishing an active and growing market for carbon removal actions.

Mission
The Award will help advance responsible carbon removal efforts by:
- Creating an incentive to establish market leadership in the field of carbon removal;
- Providing visibility for sector leaders;
- Helping to promote a universal definition of responsible carbon removal;
- Cultivating a cohort of champions and case studies from across the carbon removal ecosystem; and
- Attracting support from leading experts and prominent climate champions by establishing a platform for engagement with the GCRP.
Categories
Winners will be recognized across sectors:
- Corporations: A company that is generating significant demand for carbon removal activities in the market;
- Non-Profits: A non-commercial institution that is actively establishing the business case and rationale for carbon removal activities, including civil society organizations and academia;
- Governments: National, regional or municipal governments that are generating policies and/or implementing projects that encourage public sector demand for carbon removal;
- Pioneers: An individual who continues to make significant contributions to the ecosystem required to establish a vibrant market for carbon removal activities.
Criteria
All nominees will be assessed and selected based on a common set of criteria:
- Vision: Articulated commitment to carbon removal activities in the long term.
- Advocacy: Market recognition for demonstrating institutional/individual commitment to carbon removal;
- Impact: Achievements that have dramatically increased demand in the carbon removal market;
- Innovation: Transformative actions that can support future demand for carbon removal actions;
- Equity & Inclusion: Effect of the institutional/individual commitment to carbon removal promotes social inclusion and broad benefits, particularly with focus on the Global South
